Mob Psycho 100

On it’s second season now, Mob Psycho 100 has gotten serious traction of late. Made by the same creator as One Punch Man, Mob Psycho gives off the same mildly hilarious and light-hearted feel. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some super serious moments in it! Mob even has the same face changing phenomenon that Saitama has when the situation gets real!

Plot

Kageyama Shigeo (Japanese name order), is a seemingly weak and frail character. He has less than average looks, doesn’t have much of a presence, and is one of those super nice guys who almost has the patience of a saint in normal situations. Most girls don’t like him because it appears that he has no emotions…and with a face like his, it’s not hard to imagine that.

Shigeo’s one redeeming quality is his insanely powerful psychic ability! But don’t provoke him too much, because something terrible might happen if his emotional output reaches 100%!

This is actually from season 2, but it illustrates my point…

He can even see things in the supernatural, which is where his part-time job at a small firm specializing in exorcisms comes in. He works diligently under his master, Arataka Reigen, self-proclaimed spirit warrior.

Doesn’t he just look shady?

His little brother, Kageyama Ritsu, spoils him constantly. He does his chores, takes responsibility whenever he accidentally bends a spoon at dinner, and generally tries to ensure Shigeo lives as stress free a life as possible. Though later on, you find out his reasoning is not just because he’s a bro-con.

Shigeo is in love with his childhood friend, Tsubomi-chan, who incidentally became the school idol…but it seems she’s not willing to give him the time of day.

I personally believe she has a secret horrible personality, but I can’t as of yet prove this to be true. So on top of exorcising boss-level apparitions, battling his insecurities over the control of his powers and assuming the dogeza position in apology for stupid stuff his brother does, he is attempting to find a way to appeal more to Tsubomi in hopes of finally getting to date her.

Shigeo-kun learning how to jog to build stamina.

However, another threat lurks in the shadows.

The evil esper group CLAW is on a mission to take over the world and “rule over the powerless”. The world is the Epser’s oyster. But Mob will have to step up and defeat them, when his brother is mistaken for him and kidnapped to be inducted in their ranks. It’s time for Mob to go from 0 to 100 real quick!

Despite my initial misgivings about the artwork, the story is really really great! I absolutely LOVE this anime. If you haven’t watched it, you should. I’m sure you’ll love it too! Shigeo-kun grows on ya!

This anime is currently in its second season, which, in my opinion, is better than the first! New to Mob? Well, it’s time to catch up! Here’s a trailer for the second season to get you psyched!

Leaving this here to wet your whistle….

Well, until next time!
